ABOUT

The Mission of The Maafa Kebuka:

This monumental annual event takes place during a three day Maafa Commemoration and Afrikan Spiritual Healing Convocation entitled the Maafa Kebuka: Remembering the Great Destruction. This will be the tenth gathering of this kind in Richmond; responding to the Ancestors’ and their descendants’ continuing cries for justice, healing and liberation. "Heal the Ancestors, We heal ourselves"

The peculiar history of the state of Virginia and particularly the City of Richmond has left an indelible scar on the face of Afrikan integrity and the pursuit of justice. Both have played pivotal roles and continue to benefit from a very grueling legacy of the enslavement of African people. The frustration, fear, malice and confusion surrounding the continuing traumatic impact of this legacy has for far too long been buried in lies, falsification of history and a centuries long widening of unhealed wounds. The unbroken chains of the capture, trade and enslavement of Afrikans, coupled with colonization, racial injustice and contemporary forms of the only ongoing crime against humanity, require practical solutions fortified in the tradition(s) of Afrikan Spirituality and Healing. This event seeks to make the historical analysis and propose practical tasks toward resolve with a deliberate emphasis on the process of Re-Afrikanization utilizing traditional Afrikan methodologies. There is an awesome amount of work to be done in order to truly heal or better yet right the historic wrongs and the social, psychological and political ills suffered by Afrikans of this city, this state, the Americas and throughout the world.

The 12th Annual Afrikan Spiritual-Healing Convocation -Theme: THE REAL A.I. - ANCESTRAL INTELLIGENCE

The Maafa Kebuka is sponsored by the Abusua Pa Black Family Institute. We are a collective of Pan-African Cultural Nationalists in Richmond, Va.; that have embarked on the journey to recognize and heal the 500 years of intergenerational pain and suffering that people of African descent have encountered from the Maafa; and unrelenting system of white supremacy and domination in America. We have been called by the Ancestors, Abosom, Orisa, and Loa to re- establish order in the midst of chaos and confusion; and to create a true paradigm of healing and well-being for African people in the Americas. For over 400 years white supremacy has compromised the mental and physical health of Black people in America; and continues to be a grave threat to Black life and well-being throughout the world. The Abusua Pa Black Family Institute will facilitate a day commemoration that will take place in-person on Saturday May 17th in Disputanta, VA. This powerful Festival will allow a space for remembrance, reflection, and healing of intergenerational wounds from chattel slavery. This will be a Historic event that will include Youth Theater, Spiritual Baths and Healing Rituals that will manifest through Akom.  Akɔm is a West African ceremony in which shrine workers and community members come together to allow the Abosom (deities) and Nananom Nsamanfoɔ (esteemed ancestors) to fill a void and bring messages, blessings, and overall guidance to the community.  All practitioners of African Tradition Religion and Culture including Akan, Yoruba, Haitian Vodun, Kemetic, Sangoma & indigenous cultural expressions are welcomed.

Maafa Kebuka – means to see the great destruction through the eyes of our ancestors.

“The rationale for this Afrikan-centered preventive-intervention strategy is to provide an opportunity for Afrikans in the Americas specifically (but actually is applicable to both sides of the Atlantic) to annually reaffirm through ritual ceremony our connectedness and accountability to our Ancestors of the Trans-Atlantic enslavement experience/Afrikan Holocaust” – Dr. Kobi Kambon
